Does solar energy help with the environment?

Why are solar panels more prevalent now more than ever?

The problem with our environment

Did  you know that in the United States 29 percent of global warming emissions come from electricity production. The majority of these emissions come from fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas.

The challenge is that human activity is negatively impacting our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and other global warming emissions. We’re seeing these gases act like a blanket, trapping heat. The result is an increase in harmful effects generating stronger more frequent storms, to sea level rise, drought and other major serious global events.

In contrast, all renewable energy sources produce a negligible amount of global warming emissions.  Looking at the “life cycle” process of renewable energy, ie. the emissions tied to each phase of a technology’s life; from manufacturing to operation the global emissions associated with renewable energy solutions like solar in particular are minimal.

Why then are many businesses and homeowners not taking steps to investigate the opportunity that presents itself with solar?  The benefits of solar on the environment becomes clear when you compare the numbers for burning natural gas for electricity which releases 0.6 to 2 pounds of carbon compared to .07 to .2 for solar.

Solar means far more to our society than a far more technologically effective way to produce electricity.  With more adoption, it has the ability to improve public health, provide an inexhaustible energy source, provide jobs and other economic benefits and deliver more stable energy prices.

With this in mind the Federal government is providing tax assistance in conjunction with many state and local incentives to help support the adoption of solar power and the many other renewable energy options. The fact is our sun and the natural functions of our world provide us with the resources to transition all of our energy needs to renewable.  The question to you is why are you waiting.
